Alright, here we go again. Disney and YouTube TV in a staring contest, and surprise, surprise, we're the ones who blink first. All those channels – ABC, ESPN, FX, Nat Geo – gone. Poof. Like they never existed.
The Cord-Cutting Dream…Crushed
Remember when cutting the cord was supposed to liberate us? Save us money? Now it's just a constant game of whack-a-mole, chasing channels from one overpriced streaming service to another. I mean, come on.
So, what exactly did we lose this time? Monday Night Football. College games. Abbott Elementary (fine, I admit, I watch it). Dancing with the Stars (don't judge). All gone. Just like that. And they expect us to believe this nonsense, and honestly...
It's always the same song and dance. Some BS about "contract disputes" and "fair value." Translation: Disney wants more money, YouTube doesn't want to pay it, and we, the suckers, are caught in the middle. It's like watching two toddlers fight over a toy, except the toy is our entertainment and the playground is our wallet.
And the "solutions" they offer? Fubo with its "free trial" and "discounts." Sling TV with its "short-term passes." ESPN with its own direct-to-consumer streaming service, because why not bleed us dry from multiple angles, right? Give me a break.
Seriously, $30 a month for ESPN Unlimited? Or $13 a month for ESPN Select? That's on top of the YouTube TV subscription we're already paying for! Are they kidding me? It's like they're actively trying to make us go back to cable. And you know what? At least with cable, you knew what you were getting. Now, it's a fragmented mess.

The Illusion of Choice
All these streaming services, all these channels, all this "choice"...it's an illusion. A mirage in the desert of corporate greed. We're not actually choosing anything. We're just picking which overlord gets to control our viewing habits and extract the most money from our bank accounts.
Fubo carries ESPN, ABC, FX, Nat Geo, and SEC Network, so they are trying to pick up the slack. Sling TV has ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPN3. But is it really worth jumping ship? Is it worth learning a whole new interface, setting up new accounts, and potentially running into the same problem down the road when their contracts expire? I don't know, maybe I'm just getting old and cranky. If you're looking for alternatives, here's How to stream ESPN, ABC and more without YouTube TV - USA Today.
And honestly, what's even on most of these channels anymore? Endless reality TV, repetitive sitcoms, and the same five movies playing on a loop. It's not like we're missing out on some golden age of television here. Still...the principle of the thing. I want what I paid for.
I guess the question is, how long are we going to keep playing this game? How long are we going to keep bending over backwards for these media conglomerates that clearly don't give a damn about us? How long before we just say "screw it" and go back to reading books? Or, even worse, start talking to our families?
The Future is...More of the Same?
What's next? Are they going to start charging us per show? Per minute? Will we need a separate subscription for every single channel, every single program? It wouldn't surprise me. In fact, I fully expect it.
Maybe I should just buy a satellite dish and a lifetime supply of tinfoil hats. At least then I'd be getting ripped off with a sense of purpose.
The Joke's On Us...Again
It's a zero sum game, folks. The suits win, we pay. End of story.
